Our goal is for students to become contributing and productive members of society. We are dedicated to establishing and maintaining an environment promoting general health and well-being through information, activities and services designed to support healthy lifestyle choices.”

- 1 dedicated ring binder or a tab section in a binder for health -pen (all work should be completed in pen) -lots of paper (there will be significant note taking)
Grading
Course grading is based on averages from the following categories:
Test 30% Projects 20% Homework 15% Class work 15% Participation 15% Readings 5%
Teacher Web Page http://healthedkennedy.wikispaces.com I post homework, handouts, lecture slides, projects and other important information for both students and parents to stay up to date on our daily classroom activities. It is a good resource while absent. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with this page. We will be having class discussions and blogging on my web page a few times during the term.
Homework and Assignments
No late homework will be accepted unless you have an excused absence. You may have as many days as you were absent to turn in your work. No work will be credited and no make-ups will be given for unexcused absences. Late projects will be accepted, however, there will be 10% points deducted for every day that it is late. Parents must fill out forms for all late projects accepted.
Note taking Please be aware that we have adopted school-wide Cornell note taking, therefore taking accurate notes during lectures, discussions and presentations is crucial. Your notes will be collected and reviewed at the end of each unit and you will be given a grade for your notes.
CLASS RULES
You are expected to complete all required assignments and demonstrate your best effort everyday. This includes being part of the class discussions.
Be polite and respectful to everyone at all times. You will lose participation points for disrespectful behavior. (You can earn the points back should you wish to “right your wrong”).
Be in your seat before the bell rings, or you are late to class and you will get an unexcused tardy. Participation points will be lost and you will be responsible for making them up.
Come to class prepared to learn. Bring an open mind, all materials required. You will not be allowed to leave class to get materials once the bell rings.
Do not interrupt me during a lesson to go the bathroom, wait until you are working independently.
Always demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive attitude in the classroom. Do not interrupt your learning or anyone else’s by being off task, tardy or absent. You will be required to work in groups and your absence could affect the group process.
The teacher dismisses you from class, not the bell. Do not begin to collect your belongings until I tell you we are finished for the day. (Usually 2-3 minutes before the bell rings).
Unethical behavior such as cheating will be dealt with harshly. Parents will be called, a referral to an administrator will be given and you will take a grade of “0” for that particular assignment. (Please review Kennedy High School rules on cheating and plagiarism).
Adhere to the school dress code. I enforce and support it because it exists for your safety. Anyone wearing pajamas or slippers will not be allowed in class.
Absolutely no beauty salon practices.
You are not allowed to use cell phones or any other electronic devices unless requested by the teacher. Repeated use of cell phones will result in participation grade being lowered to an F. Electronic devices MUST be turned off or on vibrate at all times and must be out of sight. It is crucial that you stay focused.
You are expected to check your grade at least once a week and speak to the teacher about any questions you may have. DO NOT wait until grades are due to clear up any grading error or confusion you may have.
YOUR PARTICIPATION GRADE WILL WEIGH HEAVILY ON YOUR ABILITY TO FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES.
